Another big hiatus can only mean one thing… lots of work for Rainy Sun.
Yay! 2013 has started on a high note with 2 mayor projects that took most of our time but have been incredibly rewarding.

INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES

The first big project this year was the launching of the Delray’s Interactive Movie “The Search for Linton’s Treasure”, produced by John Ferber, Jenna Wehner and Jeff Perlman, written by Stephen Brown and Art and design by Jorge Marquez from Rainy Sun.

From the identity to the map, clues and promotional brochure, Rainy Sun took care of all the graphic aspect of this project. Old and modern newspaper clippings, posters, website customization and of course… being a treasure hunt, the highly detailed map etc., were part of this amazing project that has been a total success since day one, truly thanks to the great talent behind the story, the production and the art. A great TEAM effort.

This Interactive Movie is a complete and exciting experience for adults and children, inviting you to go out and enjoy the beautiful city of Delray Beach… for thriller lovers and competitive folks, this is a must-do if you are a local or passing by on vacation. Check out the winners having an awesome tome with John Ferber on the day of the launch.

MAKAI PROJECT

One of the biggest things we have been working on since last year is MAKAI PROJECT.
Makai is a brand new company with an awesome free-spirited mentality influenced by the SoFlo lifestyle, the waves of the ocean and the beauty within the wood. The main products are the handmade skateboards and surfboards, but there are more stuff coming soon.

We’ve been working side by side with our friends from Shore Life Florida, and this idea has been taken form and now is getting bigger and better with each day. Rainy Sun had the privilege to be involved on this project since its beginnings. We created all the identity and graphic pieces. Logo, tags, web design, photography etc., are only few of the things that we have done for Makai and we are looking forward to be part of this amazing project for a long time.

Welcome back to our blog. We’ve been gone from the virtual world for quite a while which only means that we’ve been really busy. It has been a crazy summer for Rainy Sun, and on top of heavy storms and really hot days (irony?) we have been working on tons of new projects, some in progress and some others coming soon…

So without any more preambles here is a little taste of what’s coming under Rainy Sun (we will be updating our portfolio soon).

PARADISE COLLECTION CRUISE 2012

Editorial Design and impressive jewelry photography by Robert Nelson

We did the editorial design for the House of Lavande latest collection lookbook. The book came out great, clean and represent the brand and their new collection which is actually the first one designed by Tracy Smith. After few long weeks we finally were able to snatch some copies… Here is a small sneak of the book.

LOGOS AND… MORE LOGOS

Also, we are thrill to be working on the logo for a new brand inspired by asian symbols and zen living. This is still in progress but is looking pretty good so far.

And to close this post, we finally got the business cards of Shore Life. After designing the Logo and website, we were eager to get the physical cards and start sharing them with the world.
They came out AWESOME!

Stay tuned and check us out on Twitter @RainySunDesign. I (CocoRamB) personally promise that we will do my best to keep you up to date with more projects, fun recommendations and surprises…

Thanks for checking us out and stay in touch,

Some say that summer is the slow season. Well… Summer has brought a lot to Rainy Sun ...

Some say that summer is the slow season. Well… Summer has brought a lot to Rainy Sun but nothing like “slow season”. West Palm Beach is heating up fast and so it seems business. There is a lot on our plate and not only at RS but all around us.

So, to take advantage of the summer and its glorious (and way too hot) days and because we are always on the look of fun stuff to do that involves art and design, last weekend we drove down to Miami to check out Wynwood Arts District. Its a long drive from West Palm but is definitely worth it. Even though the neighborhoods surrounding the area look a little sketchy, Wynwood Arts Distric is definitely a place to visit if you are into street and non-conventional art.

With numerous galleries Wynwood pleases different tastes as far as art. However in our first visit we didn’t really see much of traditional art. These galleries stand out from the regular galleries for the type of art that you can find. But galleries are not the main attraction of this district. The streets are filled with street art. Graffitis and Illustrations are all over the place. From the walls to the floors, light poles etc, walking around Wynwood is a complete adventure and art might surprise you by being in the most peculiar spots. The few stores and cafes have also incorporate the street art and embrace the whole artsy and young vibe of the district.

Bring colors are the predominant palette and attracts tourists and SoFlo natives more and more with each day. Shapes and different topics from fashion to social statements can be found. Wynwood will please you in every way.

Wynwood Walls

Walking around you will find a gate that says, “WYNWOOD WALLS”. This is a “close” section right in the heart of the district with open spaces, 2 restaurants and art all over the place. This is a must-go if you visit WAD (Wynwood Arts District). Different styles and colors and a great vibe make this location a really nice place to hang out and appreciate art. For mor information about Wynwood Walls visit their site thewynwoodwalls.com

Here is a few shots we took while walking around:

Erni Vales

Also, on a more personal note, I found this really cool artist Erni Vales. He has his own store in the Wynwood Distric and is not a small store. It’s not only really neat but he has so many prints, shirts, purses, and much more merchandise with his illustrations. There were tables featuring his art and not expensive for the piece you will be getting. Here some of his work and store.

I was very pleased with this trip and I am excited to see this, somehow, new wave of different art and artists taking over an iffy location and changing its face to something so wonderful and attractive. If you live in SoFlo keep this location in your TO-VISIT list and if you are a tourist, don’t miss the opportunity to check it out!!
Is really worth it!

Here at Rainy Sun we are all about creativity, exploring other design areas and basically use our imagination to put art and design in everything we do.

Lately we have been working on an upcoming project with Shore Life Florida and we have created our first long board, and just to be clear, when I say “we created” I mean we cut the wood, sand it, drill the holes, etc. It’s been quite a learning experience, very rewarding and fun. Jorge has been the one working close to Shore Life folks on building the longboards and I worked on the illustration. This is the first one from which I hope it will be a project that will grow into something bigger and awesome. To see details on how hard Jorge worked on putting together the board check our our post <a href="http://rainysundesign.com/2012/02/latest-news/" title=""Latest news. Boards, travel and more!"" target="_blank">“Latest news. Boards, travel and more!”

SKETCHING & INSPIRATION

As you can imagine, the sun and the sea are a constant factor for inspiration on West Palm Beach. It was not an exception when I started sketching for the illustration on the top of the board. The sketch on paper came out from my hand as it was there just waiting for me to take a pencil. I honestly think this is one of the fastest sketches I have ever done. It’s quite simple, clean lines with no shadows or much detail. Since this was our first long board, and it was for Shore Life I didn’t really want to take to much risks so I kept it simple and clean.

Once the sketch was approved, I used a sketch charcoal pencil do draw the sketch (freehand) on the board, its thickness and smoothness made the strokes softer and visible on the surface of the board which had been varnished. Once the sketch was on the board I drew it once again, this time using “Paint Sharpies”, regular Sharpies won’t work as good. The black of these paint Sharpies is really deep and shiny.

The underneath part of the board was design by Jorge who also did the black frame around it with black spray. The whole design came out pretty cool and to finish it off we covered with several layers of varnish and clear sand so is not slippery, it actually has a great grip to it.

So there you have it, our first long board and Jorge trying it out. It has been a great experience and personally I’m looking forward to do more in the near future, I think we might have a good market here!

Hope you are all enjoying the spring… Summer is coming fast and at least I know I’ll be rolling out in one of these!

Hello everyone!!
We’re very happy and proud to announce that we’re now official partners of THE ULTRAS and we are very excited about the promising future that this relationship will bring us in the design area and soccer field as well!!!

Rainy Sun goes red & yellow!!

The Ultras is South Florida’s Premiere Supporters Club formed on 2008. This partnership goes beyond a business deal. Our founder Jorge Márquez has been a member of The Ultras since early 2011, so we are very pleased to see our friendship with this club growing into a business relation that will definitely draw us closer. Check out The Ultras website and follow them @MiamiUltras

Soccer + Design

RainySun has already designed the new 2012 scarves for the club and we are all pretty happy with the outcome. Here at Rainy Sun, we already got ours and we are enjoying them as much as we can in these few cold days. In the future, we will be involve on the creative and design process of different pieces such as promos, invitations and more… and because not everything has to be work, we will be cheering for The Ultras and for Jorge on their upcoming games as well.
Check out the Strickers jersey with the Ultras scarf on the next pics… looking sweet!!!

For those who were wondering our whereabouts last week, @RainySunDesign had a very busy and exciting time last 2 weeks. As we mentioned in our last post, I was visiting some family in Bogotá Colombia and @JorgeRolito was working on some new projects with our friends from ShoreLife Florida.

Sports, Art & more projects to come!

Jorge spent some time working and getting his hands dirty. Ideas and lots of sanding took place last weekend with the @ShoreLifeFl folks. Boards seem to be one of our next projects and the horizon looks promising. Living in South Florida, surf boards, skate and long boards are really popular and fun. Besides if you do not practice any of these sports, art on boards look pretty awesome and would be a great addition to your wall! We’re very excited to share this with you since this is a project that has really caught our attention and I am looking forward to create some awesome art pieces as well as maybe incorporate basic furniture, etc. Many ideas are flowing on this end and eager to make them come true. Here are some insider picks.

Bogotá… Colors, flavors and Street Art!

So while Jorge was measuring, cutting and sanding, I was enjoying myself in Bogotá, Colombia, the city where everything started! There is not much to say except, YOU GOT TO VISIT. I enjoyed the food, the streets, the colors, the people and I took as much photos as I could. Being there for a few days remind me of our early years dipping into the design scene. Bogotá is a big city, and keeping in mind the differences, it has a lot in common with big cities like New York or London.

Many colors and people on the streets. You have to keep up with the flow, which seems to be a fast pace rhythm, messy but with a particular structure. The food is colorful and tourists walk around admiring details and things that for the natives are pretty regular, like the exotic fruits, the narrow streets, the handcraft goodies etc…

Bogotá is growing faster than it seems and for someone that spent most of her life there, I am pretty amazed with all the progress that its going on. Progress has open a big space for art and freedom of expresion. Art is everywhere, on the street, on the performances that take place in any downtown corner, on the colors of the walls in La Candelaria… Colors, flavor and diversity. Words and photos are never enough… you ought to come and visit. Hope you enjoy this post as much as I did while writing it!

Rainy Sun is taking off, slowly but surely. We’ve been quite busy these few past weeks; food and fashion photo shoots, logo design, illustrations and more projects are coming on the horizon.

Starting a company is always a big risk and a huge challenge, but as I recently saw on an art piece over the Art Palm Beach 2012 exhibition, “No guts, No Glory” (by Ruby Anemic — De Buck Gallery) So we are at full speed heading into new projects and filling up our sketch books and idea boards, getting inspired, acquiring experience and gearing up to tackle new assignments etc.

Insider photos and information…

So, to give you a feeling on what we have been doing lately, we have put together some Behind the Scenes shots. Me [Diana] took some photos of a custom made jello desert for our 60th anniversary issue done by The Sugar Monkey. Also, we took some photos at the Chesterfield hotel, this time we shot a Shrimp & Lobster cocktail and the Leopard Tale drink, a custom cocktail created for PBI as well. Also, a Citrus bright photo taken at The Rizt Carlton for our Dish Opener.

Last Friday (Feb 3rd) Jorge was on a fashion photo shoot and he took some really cool behind the scenes at the location on Palm Beach. Also, he will be working on a new upcoming project with our friends from Shore Life Florida. Stay tuned! He will be sharing some teaser photos during the weekend that you don’t want to miss. Also check out their logo… created by Rainy Sun ;)

On another note, I will be going to Bogotá, Colombia, “Rainy Sun” home place (take a look to the about us page if you don’t know the relation between Bogotá and Rainy Sun) During my week down in RS chilly capital, I’ll do my best to capture the essence and the details that inspire us about our city and might as well get you excited enough to visit it!

For now I wish you a very happy weekend and next week. Stay tuned on twitter @RainySunDesign for more updates. I’ll bring tons of photos and will be posting as much as I can from Bogotá… See U!

Before we even talk about how to promote our companies and the many things that we can ...

Before we even talk about how to promote our companies and the many things that we can use to do it, we need to understand that building our name step by step, takes a lot of time, patience and perseverance but if you go through with it you will see how your efforts will pay off.

Time management is pretty important. Even without the responsibility of owning a company, these days of massive Internet networking, time feels like is not enough. Keeping up to date even our personal pages are already a challenge but if your time and effort are driven towards your company, the rewards that would come as results will make the journey totally worth it.

We already know that facebook, twitter and other social networks are important and very helpful in terms of spreading the word about your work and getting in touch with people but there is something that you have to do first… you need to believe and love your brand! You can share and retweet as much as you can but you need to show that you truly believe in your work to be able to convince your potential clients that you are a serious entity and that this is not just a “portfolio” or a side “thing”. Many of us are, in fact, looking for that opportunity to build up our client list and be able to manage our projects and time. Who doesn’t want to be independent?

Invest in products, promote and show yourself

A way to bet in yourself and your company is to invest in elements that would help you to, not only feel proud about your brand but realize that your company will go as far as you are willing to take it, and if you invest in it, you will feel like an owner, the responsibility and seriousness will empower you to keep pursuing that final goal to establish you and your brand in the market.

Here is where we are too. Rainy Sun is a new company, and we are going through the same feelings, challenges and doubts that some of you have already gone through or will face once you have decide to be your own boss. So, in order to show to the world and to ourselves, the love and the commitment with our brand, we are trying to use our logo as much as we can in everything we can think of. It’s not about narcissism, is about making your brand stand out, be proud and make it memorable.

Stamps, wallpaper, cases and more…

We recently got our official stamp… so awesome it makes us feel like stamping the whole office wall with little Rainy Sun marks. This little guy will do a great job as far as thank you notes, quotes and other print material goes, and as I said before, it just make Rainy Sun feels even more real and you get that ownership pride feeling, like butterflies on your stomach, Pure Love.

We also have iPhone wallpapers that already are on our phones and we will be doing some designs for hard cases, iPads etc., and probably a nice Rainy Sun painting will be hanging in our office in the upcoming months…

All this because, we truly believe in our company and we want you to believe in it as much as we do. Take pride in what you do and invest in your dreams… then all the hours updating and uploading things won’t frustrate you because you will be able to stamp your to do list and feel the triumph of a job well done!

BTW: The stamp is AWESOME. Very accurate to the design, super fast production and shipping. The price is even better. Go to http://www.simonstamp.com/
